Artificial Intelligence is changing the way we live, work, communicate, and even how scammers target us. This workshop is designed to help seniors and their families understand AI in plain English, discover how it can improve everyday life, and learn how to recognize and avoid AI-powered scams.
10:00 – 11:00 AM
Session 1 – What AI Is
Presenter: Daryl Greer OATS / Senior Planet from AARP
Topics include:
- What Artificial Intelligence really is
- How AI works in simple terms
- Where we already encounter AI every day
- Helpful uses for seniors
- The opportunities—and limitations—of AI
- Understanding both the benefits and the risks
Goal: Help attendees leave with a clear understanding of AI and replace uncertainty with confidence.

Session 2 – AI, Scams & Fraud Prevention
Presenter: Karen Civitate AARP Florida
Topics include:
- How scammers are using AI
- Voice cloning and deepfake scams
- AI-generated emails and text messages
- Fake photos and videos
- Identity theft and online fraud
- Practical ways to stay safe
Goal: Teach attendees how to recognize AI-assisted scams and protect themselves and their families.

Session 3 – “Is That AI?”
Presenter: Bri Prentice– Helping Seniors & Senior Planet from AARP
An interactive program where attendees examine real examples and try to determine:
- Is this photograph real?
- Is this video authentic?
- Was this written by a person or AI?
- Can you tell the difference?
Examples include:
- AI-generated photographs
- Deepfake videos
- Social media posts
- News stories
- Advertisements
- Audio recordings
Goal: Help participants develop practical skills for identifying AI-generated content and become more informed digital citizens.
