Helping Seniors of Brevard

Many of know of Joe Steckler and his work with seniors since his retirement from the Navy in 1988 and subsequent move to Satellite Beach. Over the years many have helped with Joe’s nonprofit efforts. Joe now heads a nonprofit called Helping Seniors of Brevard that is committed to improving the quality of life for SENIORS through provision of information, education and resources.

Helping Seniors was founded in 2011 to educate seniors and their caregivers, advocate on their behalf, and link them to available resources. One way that Helping Seniors does this is through media outreach. Joe hosts the Helping Seniors radio show that is broadcast every Thursday at 1 PM on WMEL 1060 AM; his editorial columns appear monthly in Hometown News, Senior Scene Magazine, Spotlight Magazine, Ebony News Today, Al Dia Today and The Barefoot Tattler.  Helping Seniors also has  daily programs on Space Coast Government TV (available on Bright House, AT&T U-Verse and Comcast cable systems) as well as its own YouTube TV Channel.

Helping Seniors has provided case management to more than 1200 seniors, all at no cost to them. In many instances this entails numerous calls back and forth, as Helping Seniors follows up with each caller until the problem is resolved.

Helping Seniors budget is small as much of the operational costs are donated. Joe, himself, takes no salary; and considers just being able to help a contribution. Helping Seniors main revenue sources are media sponsors, donations and grants.
